D’ORIGIN Advisory, Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani – Indonesian stocks finished slightly lower on Friday with investors continued focus on third quarter earnings. Six sectors fell while miscellaneous industry soared as much as 3.36%.
Jakarta composite slipped 7.95 (-0.136%) to 5,837.292 with LQ45 fell 0.41% at 916.435. Trading volume were 8.561 billion shares worth of Rp6.59 trillion including transaction of Rp983.22 billion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp306.29 billion in regular market. 193 shares rose, while 211 declined, 120 unchanged and 144 untraded.
According to JISDOR, the currency slipped 34 points (-0.22%) to 15,221 while spot rate slid 7 cents (-0.05%) at 15,185.00 against the USD.
Asian and European stocks were mixed following weak economic data in Japan and China with investors monitored a flurry of third-quarter corporate results. Meanwhile, Greater China markets rebounded strongly, following a series of measures by China’s securities regulator to support the struggling stock market.
The Chinese economy grew by 1.6% quarter-on-quarter in the three months to September 2018, compared to a 1.8% expansion in the previous period and matching market estimates. Meanwhile, the economy advanced 6.5% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2018, after a 6.7% growth in the previous period and missing market consensus of 6.6%. It is the lowest growth rate since the first quarter of 2009, amid intense tariff dispute with the US.
In japan, consumer price inflation edged down to 1.2% year-on-year in September 2018 from 1.3% in the previous month, while core inflation, which strips away the effect of volatile fresh food costs, rose 1.0% in September from a year earlier, matching a median market forecast and ticking up from 0.9% in August.
Oil prices edged up with Brent crude added 53 cents (+0.67%) at $79.82 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 30 cents (+0.44%) at $68.95 per barrel.
