D’ORIGIN Advisory, Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks rose on Thursday amid continued inflows from investors overseas. All but agriculture sectors rose with consumer stocks soared nearly 2%.

 

Jakarta composite index rose 56.476 points (+0.9%) to 6,328.714 while LQ45 jumped 1.29% at 1,009.634. Trading volume were 15.56 billion shares worth of Rp10.774 trillion including transaction of Rp1.84 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net Rp613.1 billion in regular market. 228 shares rose, while 238 declined, 138 unchanged and 90 untraded.

 

According to JISDOR, the currency added 27 points (+0.19%) to 14,093, while Spot rate rose 70 points (+0.498%) to 14,030.00 against the USD.

 

Stocks in Asia and Europe were mostly lower on Thursday alongside with U.S. futures and oil prices after China’s inflation data missed expectations and as trade negotiations ended its three-day session with no clarity on the trade deal.

 

China’s consumer price inflation slowed to 6-month low of 1.9% year-on-year in December 2018 from 2.2% in the previous month and below market consensus of 2.1%. Meanwhile, the producer price index in China increased by 0.9% from a year earlier in December 2018, after a 2.7% rise in the previous month and missing market expectations of 1.6%. It was the lowest producer inflation since September 2016.

 

On trade talks development, the latest round of negotiations in Beijing concluded on Wednesday after an unscheduled third day of talks, suggesting there has been some compromise although there will still be a long road ahead of the removal imposed tariffs.

 

On central bank news, the minutes Federal Reserves’ latest meeting noted that the low-inflationary backdrop means the Fed can “afford to be patient about further policy firming.” Meanwhile in Europe, European Central Bank will be releasing its latest meeting accounts.

 

Oil prices also retreated from recent rally with Brent fell 77 cents (-1.25%) to $60.67 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude slipped 53 cents (-1.30%) to $51.68 per barrel.
