D’ORIGIN Advisory, Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Selling pressure in Indonesian equity market eased with mining sector reversed early losses and foreign funds returned on Monday afternoon session.
Jakarta composite index declined 25.349 (-0.863%) to 6,336.116 while LQ45 fell 0.57% at 1,007.594. Trading volume were 10.315 billion shares worth of Rp7.838 trillion including transaction of Rp1.398 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net Rp437.04 billion in regular market. 163 shares rose, while 289 declined, 139 unchanged and 103 untraded.
According to JISDOR, the currency added 24 points (+0.17%) to 14,052, while Spot rate slipped 80 points (-0.57%) to 14,120.00 against the USD.
Asian and European stocks tumbled after China revealed overall 2018 trade data was at its lowest since 2013, even though export growth was the highest since 2011. Japanese markets closed for public holiday.
China’s overall trade surplus for 2018 was $351.76 billion. Exports in the whole of 2018 rose 9.9% from 2017 while imports grew 15.8% over the same period, official dollar-denominated data showed. However, despite trade war against U.S, China’s surplus with the U.S. grew 17% from a year ago to hit $323.32 billion in 2018, according to government data. It was the highest on record dating back to 2006.
Back in Europe, Brexit remains in the spotlight as British lawmakers are poised to vote on Prime Minister Theresa May’s much maligned Brexit deal on Tuesday. Meanwhile on data front, investors will receive the latest year-on-year industrial production figures for the euro area.
Oil prices also fell on the back of Chinese weakening imports and imports. Brent slipped 76 cents (-1.26%) to $59.72 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude 75 cents (-1.45%) to $50.84 per barrel.
