D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks came as one of the worst performers across the globe after tumbling more than 1% on the final trading day of the week amid foreign outflows with miscellaneous industry slumped nearly 5%.

 

Jakarta composite index tumbled 82.335 points (-1.262%) to 6,443.348 with LQ45 fell 1.53% at 1,006.099. Trading volume were 14.74 billion shares worth of Rp10.868 trillion including transaction of Rp1.87 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold as much as Rp1.24 trillion in regular market. 133 shares rose, while 314 declined, 131 unchanged, and 123 untraded.

 

Rupiah also weakened on Thursday. According to JISDOR, the currency fell 58 points (-0.41%) to 14,062, while Spot rate slipped 35 points (-0.25%) to 14,060.00 against the USD.

 

Asian and European stocks were lower on Thursday following disappointing manufacturing activity in China while geopolitical concerns continued weighing on markets sentiments. Taiwan’s stock markets are closed on Thursday for a holiday.

 

China’s factory activity declined for the third consecutive month in February. The official Purchasing Manager’s Index slipped to 49.2 in February, data showed on Thursday — its weakest since February 2016. Later in the day, U.S. will release the fourth quarter GDP data.

 

Oil prices dipped on Thursday, dragged down by weakening factory output in China and Japan and record U.S. crude output. Brent slipped 42 cents (-0.63%) at $65.97 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate retreated 23 cents (-0.40%) to $56.71 per barrel.
