Indonesian stocks finished lower on Tuesday with basic industry tumbled the most amid profit taking ahead of the Fed’s kick off meeting.
Jakarta composite index slipped 29.171 points (-0.448%) to 6,480.276 with LQ45 fell 0.55% at 1,019.339. Trading volume were 19.455 billion shares worth of Rp9.24 trillion including transaction of Rp2.166 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net Rp344.31 billion in regular market. 212 shares rose, while 223 declined, 150 unchanged, and 115 untraded.
According to JISDOR, the currency added 14 points (+0.1%) to 14,228, while Spot rate rose 10 points (+0.07%) to 14,225.00 against the USD.
Shares in Asia were mixed while European stocks and U.S. futures were higher ahead of a closely watched meeting by the U.S. Federal Reserve set to kick off later in the day stateside.
On the data front, the unemployment rate in the UK edged down to 3.9% in the three months to January 2019, its lowest level since January 1975 and slightly below market expectations of 4%. The number of unemployed fell by 35,000 on the quarter while employment increased by 222,000, the biggest rise since the three months to November 2015.
Meanwhile, oil prices were higher as OPEC and its allies agree to cancel an April meeting, leaving supply caps in place through June. Brent added 32 cents (+0.47%) at $67.86 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate rose 22 cents (+0.37%) to $59.20 barrel.
