Indonesian stocks finished higher on Thursday after central bank kept its key policy rate unchanged as expected. Six sectors rose led by basic industry that rose more than 2% while agriculture sector tumbled as much as 1.11%.
Jakarta composite index added 19.066 points (+0.294%) to 6,501.776 with LQ45 climbed 0.41% at 1,024.621. Trading volume were 15.249 billion shares worth of Rp8.748 trillion including transaction of Rp1.49 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net Rp102.32 billion. 211 shares rose, while 205 declined, 155 unchanged, and 131 untraded.
Bank Indonesia left its 7-day reverse repo rate at 6% as expected after the Fed indicated to keep rates unchanged in 2019.
According to JISDOR, the currency strengthened 129 points (+0.91%) to 14,102 while Spot rate rose 45 points (+0.317%) to 14,135.00 against the USD.
Shares in Asia rose while European stocks edged lower amid concerns over economic growth after the Federal Reserve decided Wednesday to hold interest rates steady and indicated that no more hikes will be coming this year. Meanwhile, the Bank of England is due to announce its latest interest rate decision today.
On the data front, Australia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate unexpectedly inched lower to 4.9% in February 2019 from 5.0% in the previous month while markets had expected 5.0%. This was the lowest jobless rate since June 2011.
Meanwhile, oil prices stable with crude prices hovered around its four-month high. Brent rose 10 cents (+0.15%) at $68.60 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate slipped 6 cents (-0.10%) to $60.17 barrel.
