D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian shares retreated on Wednesday amid profit taking with traders watch closely corporate earnings, result of recent presidential election and the upcoming Bank Indonesia policy meeting.

 

Jakarta composite index slipped 26.093 points (-0.404%) to 6,458.856 while LQ45 fell 0.54% at 1,016.963. Trading volume were 8.329 billion shares worth of Rp3.612 trillion including transaction of Rp504.35 billion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp237.67 billion in regular market during midday trade. 176 shares rose, while 214 declined, 136 unchanged, and 184 untraded.

 

According to JISDOR, the currency fell 32 points (-0.23%) to 14,112 while Spot rate fell 35 points (-0.25%) to 14,105.00 against the USD.

 

Stocks in Asia were mostly lower on Wednesday with the MSCI Asia Pacific Index headed for its lowest close in three weeks even though the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite closed in record high territory overnight on Wall Street.

 

On central bank news, the People’s Bank of China extended 267.4 billion yuan to some commercial banks on Wednesday via its targeted medium-term lending facility as it looks to provide struggling smaller business with a steady stream of affordable financing.

 

Oil prices edged down with Brent slipped 33 cents (-0.44%) at $74.18 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate slid 35 cents (-0.53%) to $65.95 a barrel.
