Indonesia’s stocks retreated in Wednesday afternoon trade with foreign capital flew out as risks of coronavirus infections in the country remain lingering.
Jakarta composite declined 53.299 points (-0.875%) to 6,034.543 with LQ45 fell 1.03% to 859.608. There were 24.148 billion shares traded worth of Rp11.945 trillion, including transaction of Rp1.207 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp406.12 billion in regular markets. 194 shares rose while 307 declined and 133 unchanged.
Indonesia’s finance ministry has announced that the maximum export levy on crude palm oil will be reduced to $175/mt when palm prices exceed $1,000/mt with the implementation is expected to be effective by the end of the month.
BRMS soared amid speculation that Salim group is joining the company through right issue and will be confirmed in June financial reports.
According to JISDOR released Wednesday afternoon, Rupiah weakened 33 points (-0.22%) to 14,453 while spot rate slipped 30 points (-0.21%) at 14,430.
Asian stocks were mostly higher after reassuring comments on inflation and monetary policy from Federal Reserve officials bolstered investor sentiment.
Meanwhile in Europe, stocks struggled on Wednesday, with fresh data showing eurozone business activity growing at the fastest rate in 15 years.
Overnight, Fed Chair Jerome Powell reiterated his view that inflation pressures will be transitory even after a notable increase in recent months. He added that the Fed would be patient in waiting to lift borrowing costs.
Minutes from the Bank of Japan’s April monetary policy meeting released Wednesday showed members agreed that stimulus measures, particularly those in advanced economies, could result in a “faster than expected” pace of recovery for Japan and other countries.
On the data front, the IHS Markit flash eurozone composite purchasing managers index for June climbing to 59.2 from 57.1 in May, and marking an 180-month high. That’s as economies in Europe continued to reopen and COVID-19 vaccines rolled out across the continent.
The dollar and U.S. Treasury yields held declines, while bitcoin rebounded from its fall below the $30,000 mark.
Some economic events to watch in the rest of the week include U.S. new home sales, current account balance and EIA crude oil inventory report to be released later in the day and Bank of England interest rate decision Thursday.
Oil prices rose on Wednesday after industry data showed crude stocks fell by 7.2 million barrels for the week ended June 18, a much bigger drawdown than the 3.9 million barrels expected. Brent crude rose 77 cents (+1.03%) at $75.59 per barrel and U.S crude added 65 cents (+0.91%) at $73.51 per barrel.
