Indonesian stocks recovered some grounds following previous declines while global sentiments remain fragile.

Jakarta composite rose 38.45 points (+0.642%) to 6,030.772 while LQ45 climbed 0.50% to 855.04. There were 27.325 billion shares traded worth of Rp13.56 trillion, including transaction of Rp1.593 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net Rp293.59 billion in regular market. 278 shares rose while 204 declined and 167 unchanged.

Indonesia reported a current account deficit of $2.2 billion, or 0.8% of its gross domestic product in the second quarter, bigger than the 0.4% deficit in the previous three months, according to a central bank report released on Friday.

The country also reported a $1.9 billion surplus in its financial and capital accounts, taking the balance of payments to a deficit of $450 million in the April-June period. Indonesia had a $4.1 billion balance of payments surplus in the first quarter.

On corporate news, TLKM signed a memorandum of understanding with PT Microsoft Indonesia to explore cooperation in accelerating the process of transformation and digital sovereignty in Indonesia. In an information disclosure Wednesday, Investor Relations said that the company is transforming into a leading digital telecommunications company.

According to JISDOR released Friday afternoon, Rupiah retreated 50 points (-0.35%) to 14,464 while spot rate weakened 50 points (-0.35%) at 14,450.

Asian and European stocks extended losses amid concerns surrounding the fast-spreading delta strain, Fed’s tapering, and China’s tech crackdown.

On the data front, Japan’s consumer prices declined by 0.3% yoy in July 2021, after a revised 0.5% drop a month earlier. This was the tenth straight month of decrease in consumer prices, amid weakening consumption due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Stateside, the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell to a 17-month low last week, pointing to another month of robust job growth, though surging COVID-19 infections pose a risk to the labor market recovery.

The PBOC held its one-year LPR and five-year LPR were both left unchanged at 3.85% and 4.65%, respectively, on Friday.

In Europe, Germany’s finance minister said Friday the economy is on track for a lasting and strong recovery in the third quarter. Elsewhere, British retail sales dropped in July by 2.5% from the previous month.

Gold prices were flat on Friday, as a firmer dollar eclipsed support from rising anxiety over increasing cases of coronavirus’ Delta variant that could delay economic recovery.

Oil prices were steady at three-month lows with Brent crude slipped 10 cents (-0.16%) at $66.35 per barrel and U.S WTI slid 8 cents (-0.13%) at $63.61 barrel.
