Indonesian stocks kicked off final quarter of the year lower amid pressure from global market while foreign investors booked more than 1.3 trillion net purchase in regular transaction.

Domestic investors conduct self-closing transactions or crossing shares of SUPR from foreign investors in the negotiating market. The transaction value is more than Rp16 trillion. This action is likely to realize the acquisition of 90% of the company’s shares by Djarum’s Protelindo.

Jakarta composite declined 58.098 points (-0.924%) to 6,228.845 while LQ45 retreated 0.96% to 886.009. There were 22.659 billion shares traded worth of Rp31.385 trillion, including transaction of Rp17.452 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net Rp1.36 trillion in regular market. 203 shares rose while 303 declined and 151 unchanged.

Indonesia’s annual inflation rate inched up in September to 1.60%, the highest in four months, though the rate was slightly below analyst expectations, data from the statistics bureau showed on Friday. The annual core inflation rate, which excludes government-controlled and volatile prices, eased a touch to 1.30% in September from 1.31% in August, matching expectations. The September rate was also below BI target.

PGAS’ 2Q21 revenue slightly declined to $731 million (-0.2% QoQ, +22.9% YoY) due to lower distribution volume (-10.7% QoQ, +10.4% YoY). But, PGAS’ oil and gas business has started to recover on the back of better oil prices (+70.8% QoQ). This brings PGAS 1H21 revenue at $1.46bn (-0.3% YoY).

On tax reform, Indonesia will increase its VAT to 11% starting April 2022 and 12% in 2025 from its current rate of 10%. The government also will impose a tax of at least Rp30 per kilogram of carbon dioxide equivalent. Meanwhile on income tax, there will be a new 35% income tax bracket for individuals earning more than 5 billion rupiah a year.

According to JISDOR released Friday afternoon, up 6 points (+0.04%) at 14,315 while spot rate retreated 5 points (-0.03%) at 14,305.

Stocks in Asia and Europe were sharply lower on Friday with Japanese Nikkei dropped more than 2.5% while Markets in China mainland and Hong Kong are closed for a holiday.

Investors are bracing for the Federal Reserve to wind down its stimulus.

However, Sentiment at Japan’s large manufacturers improved in the three months to September, the Bank of Japan’s quarterly tankan business sentiment came in at plus 18 from previous quarter’s reading of plus 14.

In Europe, German retail sales climbed 1.1% month-on-month in August, official figures revealed on Friday, slightly below a Reuters consensus forecast of 1.5%.

Flash estimate of inflation for the euro zone is due at 10 a.m. London time. Meanwhile, in the U.S., core personal consumption expenditures price index, the Federal Reserve’s preferred policy-guiding metric, is expected to rise 0.2% in August and 3.5% annually.

Oil prices dropped on Friday on the prospect that the OPEC+ supplier alliance might step up a planned increase in output to ease supply concerns. Brent slipped 50 cents (-0.64%) at $77.81 per barrel and U.S WTI declined 60 cents (-0.80%) at $74.43 a barrel.
