D’ORIGIN Advisory, Louisa Rahardjo – Indonesian stocks tumbled with foreign investors sold more than a trillion rupiah on Thursday amid rout in global markets and after President Joko Widodo scrapped a decision by his energy ministry to raise retail prices premium gasoline.
Jakarta composite tumbled 117.846 (-2.025%) to 5,702.822 while LQ45 slumped 2.34% at 893.648. Trading volume were 11.24 billion shares worth of Rp7.43 including transaction of Rp846 billion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp1.07 trillion in regular market. Only 81 shares rose, while 357 declined and 98 unchanged.
According to JISDOR, the currency fell 38 points (-0.25%) to 15,253 while spot rate depreciated 32 cents (-0.21%) at 15,230 against the USD.
Asian and European stocks slumped following steep declines in U.S. before earnings season start and amid rising fears around global economic growth and rising interest rates.
Oil prices continued to decline on Thursday after suffering losses in the last session after crude inventories climbed by 9.7 million barrels in the week to Oct. 5 to 410.7 million, compared with analyst expectations for an increase of 2.6 million barrels. Brent crude declined $1.80 (-2.17%) at $81.29 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures slipped $1.49 cents (-2.04%) at $71.68 per barrel.
