D’ORIGIN Advisory, Louisa Rahardjo – Indonesian stocks climbed on Friday after being hammered in previous session tracking rebound in regional markets.

 

Jakarta composite climbed 53.668 (+0.941%) to 5,756.49 while LQ45 rose 1.02% at 902.789. Trading volume were 7.763 billion shares worth of Rp7.419 including transaction of Rp1.98 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp159.69 billion in regular market. 263 shares rose, while 157 declined, 136 unchanged and 112 untraded.

 

According to JISDOR, the currency rose 59 points (+0.34%) to 15,194 while spot rate recovered 30 cents (+0.197%) at 15,200.00 against the USD.

 

Asian and European stocks bounced from yesterday’s steep decline despite another tumble in Wall Street while President Donal Trump commented that the declines were caused by the Fed and interest rates. The MSCI Asia Pacific Index edged up from the lowest level since May 2017.

 

On the data front, China’s trade surplus widened to US$31.69 billion in September of 2018 from US$27.38 billion in the same month a year earlier and easily beating market consensus of US$19.4 billion. It was the largest trade surplus since June, as exports increased at a faster 14.5% year-on-year to US$226.5 billion, while imports grew by 14.3% to US$189.49 billion.

 

In Europe, Germany’s annual inflation rate was confirmed at 2.3% in September 2018 from 2% in the previous month and in line with market expectations. It is the highest inflation since November 2011 as prices of services, energy and food increased at a faster pace. On a monthly basis, the consumer price index increased by 0.4% in September, after a 0.1% rise in a month earlier and matching earlier estimates.

 

Oil prices climbed even though U.S. crude inventories rose by 6 million barrels last week, the Energy Information Administration said, more than double analysts’ expectations of a 2.6 million-barrel increase. Brent crude rose 50 cents (+0.62%) at $80.76 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures added 55 cents (+0.77%) at $71.52 per barrel.
