D’ORIGIN Advisory, Louisa Rahardjo – Indonesian stocks finished lower on Monday amid declines in global market with investors also digested trade data in which trade surplus was better than expected but exports and imports came below expectations.

 

Jakarta composite slipped 29.234 (-0.508%) to 5,727.256 while LQ45 fell 0.27% at 900.301. Trading volume were 8.81 billion shares worth of Rp6.353 including transaction of Rp1.31 billion in negotiation market. Foreign investors bought a net Rp378.48 billion in regular market. 129 shares rose, while 309 declined, 109 unchanged and 121 untraded.

 

Indonesia recorded a trade surplus of $230 Million in September of 2018. Exports from Indonesia increased 1.70% from a year earlier to $14.83 billion in September 2018, far below market consensus of a 7.58% rise. Imports to Indonesia rose 14.18% from a year earlier, below expectations of a 24.76% increase.

 

According to JISDOR, the currency depreciated 52 points (-0.34%) to 15,246 while spot rate stable at 15,200.00 against the USD.

 

Asian and European stocks fell with investors remained cautious over global uncertainty amid U.S. interest rates and U.S. – China trade tensions.

 

Meanwhile in Europe, investors were looking ahead to a crucial European summit on Wednesday after negotiators from the U.K. and European Union failed to clinch a Brexit deal over the weekend.

 

Oil prices rose following the disappearance of a prominent journalist who was a critic of the administration. Brent crude rose 68 cents (+0.85%) at $81.11 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures added 40 cents (+0.56%) at $71.74 per barrel.
