D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks dipped to the lowest level in two weeks as investors are jittery over upcoming presidential election.
Jakarta composite index fell 75.544 points (-1.167%) to 6,398.474 while LQ45 tumbled 1.57% at 1,005.331. Trading volume were 9.009 billion shares worth of Rp4.24 trillion including transaction of Rp715.15 billion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net Rp225.8 billion in regular market during midday trade. 155 shares rose, while 238 declined, 132 unchanged, and 178 untraded.
Meanwhile, Foreign Exchange Reserves in Indonesia increased to $124.5 billion in March from $123.3 billion in February of 2019.
According to JISDOR, the currency climbed 13 points (+0.09%) to 14,145 while Spot rate retreated 30 points (-0.21%) to 14,150.00 against the USD.
Asian markets were mixed on Monday as investors digested better-than-expected jobs data in the U.S. and reports of progress in trade negotiations between Washington and Beijing.
The U.S. economy added 196,000 jobs in March, according to government data released Friday, beating economists’ prediction of 175,000 jobs.
On other news, the Consumer Confidence Index in Japan fell to 40.5 in March 2019 from 41.5 in the previous month and below market expectations of 42.3. This was the lowest reading since February 2016.
Oil prices rose to their highest level since Nov. 2018 on Monday, driven up by OPEC’s ongoing supply cuts, U.S. sanctions against Iran and Venezuela and strong U.S. jobs data. Brent rose 31 cents (+0.44%) at $70.65 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate added 30 cents (+0.30%) to $63.38 a barrel.
