D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Jakarta composite remained under pressure on Friday, heading for its lowest close this year as sentiments remained fragile in both domestic and global markets.

 

Jakarta composite index slipped 20.672 points (-0.333%) to 6,178.132 while LQ45 fell 0.35% at 968.407. Trading volume were 8.38 billion shares worth of Rp3.647 trillion including transaction of Rp478.76 billion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp210.75 billion in regular market. 156 shares rose, while 236 declined, 131 unchanged, and 188 untraded.

 

Indonesia’s current account deficit widened to USD 6.96 billion or 2.6% of GDP in 1Q19 from revised 2.01% of GDP in same period a year ago. Balance of payment ended with $2.4 billion surplus in 1Q19. Meanwhile, there was a US$2.4 billion surplus in the balance of payments in the first quarter, compared with US$5.4 billion surplus in previous three months.

 

According to JISDOR, rupiah retreated 9 points (-0.06%) at 14,347 while Spot rate slipped 10 points (-0.07%) to 14,355 against the USD.

 

Asian stocks climbed despite the implementation of increased U.S. tariffs from Washington on Chinese goods.

 

Tariffs on about $200 billion of Chinese goods jumped up to 25% as planned, though Chinese Vice Premier Liu He is currently in Washington for trade negotiations with U.S. officials.

 

Oil prices rose on Friday with Brent added 24 cents (+0.34%) at $70.63 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate climbed 31 cents (+0.50%) to $62.01 a barrel.
