D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks retreated from its five-day rally, tracking declines in regional markets after the IMF cut global economic forecast on Monday.
Jakarta composite index fell 31.721 points (-0.492%) to 6,419.113 while LQ45 fell 0.82% at 1,020.527. Trading volume were 7.652 billion shares worth of Rp4.774 trillion including transaction of Rp685.70 billion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net 34.92 billion in regular market during midday trade. 165 shares rose, while 240 declined, 133 unchanged and 159 untraded.
According to JISDOR, the currency slipped 9 points (-0.06%) to 14,221, while Spot rate added 15 points (-0.106%) to 14,205.00 against the USD.
Without lead from U.S. markets that were closed for public holiday on Monday, stock in Asia were lower on Tuesday amid cautious for slowing economy after the IMF slashed its estimates for global growth.
The IMF now projects a 3.5% growth rate worldwide for 2019 and 3.6% for 2020. These are 0.2 and 0.1 percentage points below its last forecasts in October, making it the second downturn revision in three months.
Oil prices also declined with Brent fell 74 cents (-1.18%) to $62.00 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude retreated 58 cents (-1.08%) to $53.22 per barrel.
