D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks swung in low volatility on Wednesday amid election riots in Jakarta that killed 6 people and injured at least 200.
Jakarta composite index slipped 19.242 points (-0.323%) to 5,932.13 while LQ45 retreated 0.5% at 920.434. Trading volume were 10.553 billion shares worth of Rp4.275 trillion including transaction of Rp1.83 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp22.92 billion in regular market during midday trade. 165 shares rose, while 219 declined, 153 unchanged, and 175 untraded.
According to JISDOR, rupiah fell 26 points (-0.18%) at 14,488 while Spot slipped 35 points (-0.24%) at 14,510 against the USD.
Stocks in Asia were slightly higher tracking positive move in Wall Street after the U.S. temporarily backed off on restrictions on Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei.
On the data front, Japan posted a trade surplus of JPY 60 billion in April 2019 compared with a JPY 621 billion surplus in the same month a year earlier and market expectations of a JPY 203 billion surplus. Exports declined for a fifth straight month while imports gained steam.
Oil prices retreated after The American Petroleum Institute reported U.S. crude stockpiles rose by 2.4 million barrels last week, to 480.2 million barrels, compared with analysts’ expectations for a decrease of 599,000 barrels. Brent down 45 cents (-0.62%) at $71.73 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate fell 55 cents (-0.87%) to $62.58 a barrel.
