D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks extended gains for a seventh straight day on Wednesday with property shares soared.
Jakarta composite index added 8.42 points (+0.13%) to 6,468.563 while LQ45 slipped 0.19% at 1,029.028. Trading volume were 7.523 billion shares worth of Rp5.027 trillion including transaction of Rp725 billion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net 102.89 billion in regular market during midday trade. 244 shares rose, while 146 declined, 151 unchanged and 156 untraded.
According to JISDOR, the currency added 33 points (+0.23%) to 14,188, while Spot rate added 45 points (+0.317%) to 14,165.00 against the USD.
Stock in Asia were mixed as global sentiments remained uncertain amid slowing economy and trade negotiations.
On the data front, Japan trade balance shifted to a deficit of JPY 55.3 billion in December 2018 from a JPY 356.2 billion surplus in the same month a year earlier and worse than market estimates of a JPY 29.5 billion shortfall. Exports declined 3.8% to JPY 7,024 billion and imports climbed 1.9% to JPY 7,304 billion.
Meanwhile, the yen extended losses against the dollar after the Bank of Japan left its policy unchanged and cut its inflation outlook again.
Oil prices were stable with Brent unchanged at $61.50 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude retreated 1 cent (-0.02%) to $53.00 per barrel.
