D’ORIGIN Advisory, Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani – Indonesian stocks extended rally on Friday with foreign inflows continued following surprise hike in benchmark rate and after the government launched its 16th economic package.
Jakarta composite rose 56.614 points (+0.951%) to 6,012.35 with LQ45 added 1.36% at 959.156. Trading volume were 11.314 billion shares worth of Rp9.013 trillion including transaction of Rp1.755 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net Rp1.68 trillion in regular market. 254 shares rose, while 188 declined, 123 unchanged and 115 untraded.
Indonesian government launched the 16th policy package on Friday to attract more foreign investment in order to improve the current account deficit. The policy package consists of expansion of recipients of tax holiday facilities, relaxation of negative investment list rules, and regulation of foreign exchange earnings from natural resource exports.
Rupiah maintained gains. According to JISDOR, the currency soared 170 points (+1.15%) to 14,594, while Spot rate strengthened 67 points (+0.457%) at 14,608.00 against the USD.
Asian markets were mixed while Europeans opened higher with investors watched closely turmoil in U.K. after multiple important ministers resigned from Prime Minister Theresa May’s government.
On the data front, investors will receive euro area’s final reading of core inflation rate data for October later today.
Oil prices were higher on Friday, supported by expected supply cuts from OPEC but held back by record U.S. production. Brent crude added 90 cents (+1.35%) to $67.52 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures added 69 cents (+1.22%) to $57.15 per barrel.
