JCI claw back from six-day losing streak
• Indonesian stocks climb following trade data while investors await Bank Indonesia rates decision later this week.
• Indonesia’s trade surplus increased to $4.99 billion in September of 2022 from $4.37 billion in the same month of the previous year, beating market expectations of $4.8 billion surplus.
• New British finance minister Jeremy Hunt will announce tax and spending measures later Monday, two weeks earlier than previously scheduled.
Indonesian stocks climbed following trade data while investors await Bank Indonesia rates decision later this week.
Jakarta composite climbed 16.585 points (0.243%) to 6,831.12 while LQ45 added 0.61% to 972.67. There were 24.867 billion shares traded worth of Rp14.360 trillion, including transaction of Rp4.898 trillion in negotiation market. 153 shares rose while 411 declined and 120 unchanged.
According to JISDOR Monday Afternoon, rupiah was at 15,480, fell 90 points, while spot rate was at 15,488.
Indonesia’s trade surplus increased to $4.99 billion in September of 2022 from $4.37 billion in the same month of the previous year, beating market expectations of $4.8 billion surplus. Exports grew 20.28% over a year earlier to $24.8 billion due to further solid global demand. Meanwhile, imports rose by 22.01% to a record peak of $19.81 billion.
Until the Q3 of 2022, PT Arwana Citramulia Tbk (ARNA), booked a net profit of Rp458.36 billion in 2022, or soared 31.9% compared to the same period in 2021 which was Rp347.44 billion.
PT Puradelta Lestari Tbk (DMAS), achieved marketing sales of Rp1.33 trillion in the Q3 of 2022, around 73.8% of the marketing sales target in 2022.
Global markets
Asian stock markets were mixed as a major rate hike by the Federal Reserve held back sentiment. Meanwhile Taiwan’s shares tumbled after Chinese President Xi Jinping said China reserves the right to take “all measures necessary” against “interference by outside forces” on the issue of Taiwan.
China will delay the release of third-quarter gross domestic product and September activity data originally scheduled for publication at 10 am local time on Tuesday, October 18. However, economy showed a significant rebound in the third quarter and employment was largely stable, a senior official at the state planner said on Monday, even as the economy still faces challenges and difficulties.
European stock markets edged higher following the news that the UK Chancellor will bring forward the announcement of his fiscal plans to shore up market confidence after weeks of turmoil.
New British finance minister Jeremy Hunt will announce tax and spending measures later Monday, two weeks earlier than previously scheduled, after the original economic plan put forward by Prime Minister Liz Truss and former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng roiled financial markets.
On economic data, Italian consumer prices are expected to remain elevated in September, climbing 8.9% on the year.
Stock futures traded higher early on Monday as investors awaited big earnings reports to roll in.
Commodity markets
Oil prices rose on Monday after PBoC rolled over maturing medium-term policy loans while keeping the interest rate unchanged for a second month.
Gold prices inched higher but were pinned below key support levels as markets feared more interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve, while copper markets awaited quarterly production figures from some of the biggest miners in the world, due later this week.
Benchmark prices for natural gas in Europe tumbled to their lowest in three months, amid reports of a new plan in Brussels to bring them down ahead of the coming winter.
Iron ore added to five weeks of declines as demand remains weak. The China Iron & Steel Association warned last week that the environment is still not optimistic and the industry faces a “severe market situation”.
