D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks retreated amid profit taking activities after the index rested at its highest level since June yesterday following strong economic data while foreign net inflows continued.
Jakarta composite index slipped 11.419 points (-0.174%) to 6,536.458 with LQ45 fell 0.25% at 1,033.038. Trading volume were 16.685 billion shares worth of Rp9.05 trillion including transaction of Rp2.269 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net Rp289.16 billion in regular market. 217 shares rose, while 237 declined, 135 unchanged and 109 untraded.
According to JISDOR, the currency retreated 31 points (-0.22%) to 13,978, while Spot rate fell 53 points (-0.38%) to 13,970.00 against the USD.
Asian stocks were mixed with investors kept an eye on the development of U.S.-China trade negotiations. Meanwhile, Europeans opened lower alongside with U.S. futures with the greenback climbed for a sixth straight day.
In Europe, investors are likely to closely monitor the Bank of England’s latest interest rate decision at midday. The U.K.’s central bank will also release its inflation report, with 50 days to go before the country is expected to leave the European Union.
Oil prices retreated after U.S. crude oil inventories climbed by 1.3 million barrels in the week that ended Feb. 1 to 447.21 million barrels, data from the Energy Information Administration showed on Wednesday. Brent slipped 23 points (-0.37%) at $62.46 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude declined 16 cents (-0.30%) to $53.85 per barrel.
