D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks finished moderately lower on Friday amid declines in regional markets and profit taking activities.
Jakarta composite index slipped 14.795 points (-0.226%) to 6,521.663 with LQ45 fell 0.49% at 1,027.893. Trading volume were 13.881 billion shares worth of Rp8.237 trillion including transaction of Rp2.12 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp192.44 billion in regular market. 204 shares rose, while 241 declined, 134 unchanged and 119 untraded.
Foreign Exchange Reserves in Indonesia decreased to 120.075 USD billion in January of 2019 from 120.654 USD billion in December of 2018.
According to JISDOR, the currency retreated 14 points (-0.1%) to 13,992, while Spot rate added 10 points (-0.072%) to 13,960.00 against the USD.
Asian stocks were lower on Friday amid renewed concerns over U.S.-China trade after White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow said China and the U.S. were still far away on striking a trade deal following news that President Donald Trump is unlikely to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping before the March 1 deadline for more tariffs while reports on Friday indicated that Trump could sign an order next week banning Chinese telecommunication equipment from U.S. wireless networks.
In the meantime, European stocks swung with concerns over economic growth continued.
On the data front, the German trade surplus decreased to EUR 13.9 billion in December 2018 from EUR 18.4 billion in the same month a year earlier. It was the smallest trade surplus since January 2016, mainly due to a sharp decline in exports. Considering 2018 the whole year, the trade surplus narrowed to EUR 227.8 billion from EUR 247.9 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Oil prices continued to see declines during the morning of Asian hours on Friday with Brent slipped 20 points (-0.32%) at $61.43 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude declined 27 cents (-0.51%) to $52.37 per barrel.
