D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks finished slightly lower on Wednesday amid renewed concerns over slowing global economic growth and as investors watch closely the upcoming presidential election.
Jakarta composite index slid 6.022 points (-0.093%) to 6,478.326 while LQ45 retreated 0.02% at 1,024.128. Trading volume were 12.944 billion shares worth of Rp8.001 trillion including transaction of Rp1.73 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net Rp234.01 billion in regular market. 163 shares rose, while 253 declined, 140 unchanged, and 149 untraded.
According to JISDOR, the currency slipped 5 points (+0.04%) to 14,155 while Spot rate retreated 15 points (-0.11%) to 14,145.00 against the USD.
Stocks in Asia and Europe turned higher with investors closely monitor the central bank’s monetary policy decisions while EU leaders likely to grant British Prime Minister Theresa May a second delay to Brexit.
In the meantime, sentiments remained fragile amid trade tension between the United States and the European Union and as the IMF slashed its global economic growth forecast once again on Tuesday.
The International Monetary Fund slashed its global economic growth to 3.3% this year from previous outlook of 3.5%, which was also a downgrade. The IMF added that it expects the economy to expand by 3.6% in 2020, however.
Oil prices edged up with Brent added 35 cents (+0.50%) at $70.96 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate added 42 cents (+0.64%) to $64.39 a barrel.
