D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks finished slightly higher after swinging between gains and losses on Monday with agri sector soared as much as 3.71% while net inflows resumed.
Jakarta composite index added 2.678 points (+0.042%) to 6,450.834 while LQ45 slipped 0.15% at 1,029.060. Trading volume were 12.378 billion shares worth of Rp8.403 trillion including transaction of Rp1.303 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net 272.31 billioin in regular market during midday trade. 214 shares rose, while 243 declined, 151 unchanged and 89 untraded.
According to JISDOR, the currency slipped 30 points (-0.21%) to 14,212, while Spot rate fell 50 points (-0.35%) to 14,220.00 against the USD.
Stock in Asia were higher while Europeans traded lower on Monday with investors digested China’s GDP data that came at the slowest pace since 1990. In the meantime, investors also watch closely the development on Brexit deal and the next round of U.S.-China trade talks.
The Chinese economy grew by 1.5% quarter-on-quarter in the three months to December 2018, compared to a 1.6% expansion in the previous period and in line with market estimates. Meanwhile, advanced 6.4% year-on-year in the December 2018, after a 6.5% growth in the previous quarter and matching market expectations. It was the lowest growth rate since the global financial crisis, amid intense trade dispute with the US and weakening domestic demand. Considering full 2018, the economy expanded 6.6%, the weakest pace since 1990. On other news, China’s fixed-asset investment increased by 5.9% from a year earlier in the full year of 2018.
Oil prices were mixed with Brent fell 25 cents (-0.40%) to $62.45 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude slipped 13 cents (-0.24%) to $53.67 per barrel.
