D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks finished lower on Wednesday after a six-day rally amid economic and political risks in global markets.

 

Jakarta composite index slipped 17.393 points (-0.269%) to 6,451.17 with LQ45 fell 0.84% at 1,022.462. Trading volume were 13.316 billion shares worth of Rp10.053 trillion including transaction of Rp1.737 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors booked a net sell of 332.96 billion in regular market. 244 shares rose, while 197 declined, 145 unchanged and 111 untraded.

 

According to JISDOR, the currency added 33 points (+0.23%) to 14,188, while Spot rate added 35 points (+0.246%) to 14,175.00 against the USD.

 

Stock in Asia were mixed while Europeans opened lower as global sentiments remained uncertain amid slowing economy, Brexit deal and trade negotiations.

 

On the data front, Japan trade balance shifted to a deficit of JPY 55.3 billion in December 2018 from a JPY 356.2 billion surplus in the same month a year earlier and worse than market estimates of a JPY 29.5 billion shortfall. Exports declined 3.8% to JPY 7,024 billion and imports climbed 1.9% to JPY 7,304 billion.

 

Meanwhile, the yen extended losses against the dollar after the Bank of Japan left its policy unchanged and cut its inflation outlook again.

 

Oil prices were stable with Brent added 2 cents (+0.03%) at $61.52 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude added 2 cents (+0.04%) to $53.03 per barrel.
