D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks rebounded from losses on previous day with foreign investors resumed net inflows. Seven sectors rose led by miscellaneous industries that soared more than 2%.
Jakarta composite index added 15.485 points (+0.24%) to 6,466.655 with LQ45 added 0.06% at 1,023.130. Trading volume were 15.339 billion shares worth of Rp11.918 trillion including transaction of Rp2.19 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors booked a net buy of 281.99 billion in regular market. 242 shares rose, while 205 declined, 143 unchanged and 107 untraded.
According to JISDOR, the currency added 47 points (+0.33%) to 14,141, while Spot rate added 15 points (+0.1058%) to 14,160.00 against the USD.
Stock in Asia were mostly higher while Europeans were mixed amid cautious trade as sentiment overall remained fragile as concerns remained over the state of U.S.-China trade negotiations following reports on Tuesday that the U.S. had cancelled a trade meeting with Chinese officials.
On the data front, Australia created 21,600 new jobs in December, beating analysts’ expectations of 16,500. The unemployment rate also surpassed forecasts, coming in at 5% as compared to expectations of 5.1%. In Europe, the IHS Markit Germany Manufacturing PMI fell to 49.9 in January 2019 from 51.5 in December, below market expectations of 51.3, the preliminary estimate showed. The reading pointed to the first contraction in the manufacturing activity since November 2014, as output rose at the softest pace in 69 months.
In the meantime, investors were watching ECB interest rates decision on monetary policy later in the day.
Oil prices retreated with Brent fell 30 cents (-0.49%) at $60.84 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude slipped 22 cents (-0.42%) to $52.40 per barrel.
