D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian shares retreated on Wednesday amid profit taking with foreign outflows continued. Meanwhile, traders watch closely corporate earnings, result of recent presidential election and the upcoming Bank Indonesia policy meeting.
Jakarta composite index slipped 14.937 points (-0.231%) to 6,447.885 while LQ45 fell 0.24% at 1,020.123. Trading volume were 14.436 billion shares worth of Rp8.477 trillion including transaction of Rp1.892 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp582.88 billion in regular market. 203 shares rose, while 228 declined, 142 unchanged, and 137 untraded.
According to JISDOR, the currency fell 32 points (-0.23%) to 14,112 while Spot rate fell 20 points (-0.14%) to 14,090.00 against the USD.
Stocks in Asia ended mixed on Wednesday while Europeans opened lower even though the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite closed in record high territory overnight on Wall Street.
On central bank news, the People’s Bank of China extended 267.4 billion yuan to some commercial banks on Wednesday via its targeted medium-term lending facility as it looks to provide struggling smaller business with a steady stream of affordable financing.
On the data front, the Ifo Business Climate Index in Germany fell 0.5 points from a month earlier to 99.2 in April of 2019, missing market expectations of 99.9.
Oil prices edged down from six month highs with Brent slipped 21 cents (-0.28%) at $74.30 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate slid 33 cents (-0.50%) to $65.97 a barrel.
