D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian stocks took a pause for breath from recent rally with six sectors finished lower on Monday.

 

Jakarta composite index slipped 24.131 points (-0.372%) to 6,458.712 with LQ45 fell 0.64% at 1,019.137. Trading volume were 13.257 billion shares worth of Rp9.991 trillion including transaction of Rp1.516 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net of 540.98 billion in regular market. 182 shares rose, while 251 declined, 154 unchanged and 110 untraded.

 

Rupiah rose alongside with a bunch of Asian currencies amid hopes for dovish Fed. According to JISDOR, the currency rose 125 points (+0.883%) to 14,038, while Spot rate rose 15 points (+0.106%) to 14,065.00 against the USD.

 

European stocks opened lower while Asians were mixed early gains ahead of the Federal Reserve policy meeting with investors monitored Brexit and trade talk developments as Chinese Vice Premier Liu He set to lead a delegation to Washington for a fresh round of high level trade talks. Australia’s stock market was closed on Monday for a public holiday.

 

Meanwhile Chinese markets climbed after the People’s Bank of China freed up a potential $37 billion for bank lending and a new chief was named to lead the country’s main securities regulator.

 

In energy markets, oil prices fell on Monday after U.S. energy firms added rigs for the first time this year in a sign that crude production there may rise further. Brent fell $1.14 (+1.85%) at $60.50 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude fell $1.06 (-1.97%) to $52.63 per barrel.
