D’ORIGIN – Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Jakarta composite picked up on Wednesday with investors continued to digest earnings results. Five sectors rose led by infrastructure and consumer sectors.
Jakarta composite index added 27.709 points (+0.43%) to 6,464.189 with LQ45 rose 0.79% at 1,023.544. Trading volume were 16.176 billion shares worth of Rp23.834 trillion including transaction of Rp16.239 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors purchased a net of 304.98 billion in regular market. 211 shares rose, while 233 declined, 134 unchanged and 120 untraded.
As much as Rp14.28 net inflows came from crossing transaction of BTPN as it is set to merge with PT Bank Sumitomo Mitsui Indonesia.
According to JISDOR, the currency declined 14 points (-0.10%) to 14,112, while Spot rate fell 35 points (-0.25%) to 14,125.00 against the USD.
Stocks in Asia and Europe were mixed on Wednesday trade ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting with investors also await the start of U.S.-China trade talks later in the day stateside.
On the data front, retail trade in Japan increased 1.3% year-on-year in December of 2018, below the unchanged 1.4% growth for November but above market expectations of 0.8%. On a monthly basis, retail sales rose 0.9% after an upwardly revised 1.1% drop in November. Meanwhile in Europe, the euro area is expected to publish economic sentiment and business confidence figures for January
Oil prices swung on Wednesday following 2% jump the previous session amid worries over disruptions to supply from U.S. sanctions on Venezuelan exports. Brent slipped 6 cents (-0.10%) at $61.25 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude slid 8 cents (-0.15%) to $53.23 per barrel.
