D’ORIGIN Advisory, Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani – Selloff in Indonesian stocks eased after Bank Indonesia maintained its benchmark rate unchanged even after the Fed raised rates.
Jakarta composite index fell 28.218 points (-0.457%) to 6,147.876 with LQ45 declined 0.56 % at 985.063. Trading volume were 11.196 billion shares worth of Rp9.851 trillion including transaction of Rp4.16 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp413.66 billion in regular market. 167 shares rose, while 280 declined, 120 unchanged and 121 untraded.
Indonesia’s central bank left its benchmark interest rate unchanged after six hikes since May, leaving the seven-day reverse repurchase rate was left at 6% on Thursday
According to JISDOR, the currency weakened 119 points (-0.83%) to 14,499, while Spot rate slipped 30 points (-0.21%) to 14,465.00 against the USD.
Global stocks tumbled on Thursday with Europeans stocks fell to their lowest in two years after the U.S. Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the fourth time in 2018.
As markets had expected, U.S. central bank took the target range for its benchmark funds rate to 2.25% – 2.5%. Meanwhile, officials reduce its 2019 projections to two hikes from three raises previously projected.
In Europe, the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee is preparing to announce its latest interest rate decision. Meanwhile, data overnight showed the annual inflation rate in the United Kingdom fell to 2.3% in November 2018 from 2.4% in the previous month, in line with market expectations, the lowest inflation rate since March last year.
In energy markets, oil prices resumed declines, erasing most of their gains in previous session amid worries about oversupply and the outlook for the global economy. Brent fell $1.62 (-2.83%) to $55.62 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude retreated $1.53 (-3.18%) to $46.64 per barrel.
