Indonesian stocks trade higher in thin volume as holiday season approaches
Jakarta composite climbed 7.349 points (+0.112%) to 6,562.9. LQ45 declined 0.15% to 930.957. There were 21.949 billion shares traded worth of Rp8.448 trillion, including transaction of Rp987.71 billion in negotiation market. 212 shares rose while 305 declined and 155 unchanged. Foreign investors sold a net Rp71.95 billion in regular market.
A subsidiary of ADRO, Adaro Mineral, set its IPO price at Rp100 per share. The company will release 6.04 billion shares, or 15% of paid up capital after IPO, expected to debut on Dec 30.
According to JISDOR released Friday afternoon, Rupiah climbed 32 points (+0.22%) to 14,219 while Spot rate strengthened 27 points (+0.19%) at 14,220.
Asian and European stocks were mixed on Friday as many markets are closed or shortened for Christmas holidays.
On the data front, Japan’s consumer prices rose 0.6% YoY in November 2021, accelerating at its fastest pace in nearly two years and compared with a 0.1% gain a month earlier.
Also lifting sentiment, U.K. study suggested omicron infections are less likely to lead to hospitalization. But it added that the variant may still produce a significant number of serious cases due to its infectiousness.
However, traders are weighing the potential for tighter liquidity in 2022, with the Federal Reserve targeting an aggressive tapering of its huge stimulus program and three rate hikes. Meanwhile, the Bank of England is also taking a hawkish approach, becoming the first major central bank to hike interest rates since the pandemic began.
Oil prices slipped with Brent crude futures declined 59 cents (-0.77%) to $76.26 while U.S. markets are closed for Christmas.
