JCI extend declines amid rates risks
• Asian stocks tanked while Europeans were choppy after sliding into bear market on Friday as negative sentiment continues to weigh in on markets.
• Asian currencies lost ground around the U.S. dollar. The People’s Bank of China announced Monday it would increase the risk reserve requirement on foreign exchange forward sales to 20% from 0%, effective Tuesday.
Indonesian stocks remained under pressure with its regional peers on recession fears after a series of rate hikes.
Jakarta composite declined 51.08 points (-0.71%) to 7,127.503 while LQ45 fell 0.53% to 1,020.20. There were 123.081 billion shares traded worth of Rp14.827 trillion, including transaction of Rp1.015 trillion in negotiation market. 134 shares rose while 442 declined and 128 unchanged.
According to JISDOR Monday afternoon, rupiah tumbled 84 points (-0.56%) to 15,119 while spot rate weakened 90 points (-0.60%) at 15,125.
SMBR announced the acquisition of 7.49 billion shares of SMBR by SMGR. Thus, SMGR will own 75.51% of SMBR shares.

On other news, the Bank of Korea expects the U.S. Fed to hike rates by another 75 basis points at its upcoming meeting in November.
Investors are also digesting the victory of a right-wing bloc led by Giorgia Meloni in Italy’s parliamentary elections on Sunday, to be its first female prime minister and the first government led by the far-right since the end of World War II.
In term of data, the Ifo Business Climate indicator for Germany dropped to 84.3 in September 2022, the lowest level since the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic shock in May 2020 and well below market consensus of 87.0.
Commodity markets
Oil prices fell for a second day on Monday on fears of lower fuel demand from an expected global recession sparked by rising worldwide interest rates and as a surging U.S. dollar limits the ability of non-dollar consumers to purchase crude.
“Oil prices are sure to come under renewed upward pressure as the European Union prepares to implement its sanctions on Russian oil in the coming months,” says Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics.
Gold and copper prices retreated further on Monday as the dollar notched a new 20-year high amid growing fears of rising interest rates and a potential economic recession. after the U.S. Federal Reserve hiked interest rates and warned of potential economic pain as it looks to combat runaway inflation.
