D’ORIGIN Advisory, Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani – Indonesian stocks amid mixed sentiments following a temporary trade truce between U.S. and China and faster-than-expected inflation data. Meanwhile, foreign investors pulled out more than half a trillion rupiah from equity market today.
Jakarta composite rose 62.195 points (+1.027%) to 6,118.32 with LQ45 rose 1.27% at 978.786. Trading volume reached 13.035 billion shares worth of Rp12.49 trillion including transaction of Rp3.86 trillion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold a net Rp748.6 billion in regular market. 259 shares rose, while 193 declined, 125 unchanged and 105 untraded.
Indonesia’s annual consumer price inflation increased to a-six month high of 3.23% in November of 2018 from 3.16% in the previous month, and beating market expectations of 3.15%. Annual core inflation rose to a 12-month high of 3.03% in November from a 2.94% in October and slightly above market consensus of 2.97%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.27%, after a 0.28% gain in October, missing expectations of a 0.19% rise.
On other news, the Nikkei Indonesia Manufacturing PMI edged down to a 5-month low of 50.4 in November 2018 from 50.5 in October as output continued to increase while new orders were largely stagnant and export sales declined for the twelfth straight month.
According to JISDOR, the currency strengthened 87 points (+0.61%) to 14,252, while Spot rate added 65 points (+0.455%) at 14,235.00 against the USD.
Stocks in Asia and Europe traded higher on Monday Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping agreed to a 90-day trade truce between the United States and China.
On the data front, the Caixin/Markit Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index for November rose to 50.2 from 50.1 in October while economists polled by Reuters had forecast a reading of 50.0.
In Europe, investors are likely to watch out for a final reading of the euro area’s Markit manufacturing PMI data for November later today.
Oil prices also soared in response to the development of U.S. China trade dispute. Brent crude rose $2.37 (+3.99%) to $61.83 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures jumped $2.27 (+4.46%) to $53.20 per barrel.
