D’ORIGIN Advisory, Louisa Rahardjo and Veni Fitriani, Indonesian equity market ended its eight-day rally, turning lower on Friday amid selloff in regional markets, with investors look ahead current account data later today. Meanwhile, the addition of free float ratio indicator to market capitalization has also weighed on sentiment.
Jakarta composite declined 102.652 points (-1.718%) to 5,874.154 with LQ45 fell 2.54% at 931.009. Trading volume were 9.396 billion shares worth of Rp8.16 trillion including transaction of Rp1.49 trillion in negotiation market. Stocks in Asia and Europe were broadly lower in morning trade after the U.S. Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged at its latest policy meeting while trade tensions between U.S. and China continue to weigh on sentiment.
On the data front, China’s consumer price inflation stood at 2.5% year-on-year in October of 2018, the same as in the previous month and matching market estimates. A slowdown in prices of food was offset by a faster rise in cost of non-food. The latest reading remained at its highest in seven months. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.2% in October, after a 0.7% rise in a month earlier and in line with market expectations. It was the lowest monthly figure since a decline in June.
Oil prices were mixed amid rising supply and concerns of an economic slowdown. Brent crude slipped 13 cents (-0.18%) to $70.52 per barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures slipped 25 cents (-0.41%) to $60.42 per barrel.
